So this is the new year.

2017

Hi, how's it going. My big lack of motivation for doing stuff for uni opened up places for ideas like this thing here, so, hi!

I'm so excited for this year, music-wise. There are a few cool albums about to come out and a lot, I mean, a lot of albums rumoured to come out soon, though I won't be covering them here. I will leave links at the bottom for every album to hear a song off it, if you want to get into it. But most of all, I'm looking forward to a lot of concerts set during the first few months.

These are the ones I got tickets for so far. It's sad that I'm so limited by the place I live in, but I am very glad to have so many bands come to Europe this year. Other acts I would love to see and am still trying to get someone to go with or sort the time out with studying/working are As It Is with State Champs and Boston Manor with Four Year Strong in February, Blackout Problems, Smile and Burn and Fences in March, Real Friends, City Light Thief and Heisskalt again in April & Julien Baker (!!!) in May. This year is going to be good.
As for the few albums I look forward to at least hear what the artists have done with their
time, let's start with
You Me at Six's Night People, as it is already out. I could not get myself excited for this album, despite the band beeing one of my absolute favorites for a long time. The few pre-release songs are still quite good, it reminds me of their older style, kind of SNS-like and I will definitely check it out and form my own opinion on it. It was released on BMG Records, you can buy it here.

Up next we have okey. by As It Is, out on the 20th of January with the support of Fearless Records. As It Is are a pop-punk band, closely related to other bands in the new pp-wave such as Real Friends, Neck Deep or State Champs. I personally don't like their new style/aesthetic (especially with the straight-edge Patty Walters holding a beer bottle on the picture), even though it seems to create a great hype among their fanbase. Despite this, I really like the songs they've put out so far and I'm excited to fully hear what they have created. You can pre-order it here

Next up, Get Better Get Worse by Smile And Burn, out on the 3rd of February through Uncle M Records. I just found this band a few weeks ago, they played as support for the wonderful Blackout Problems. They were quite the experience live and I really enjoy listening to their last album. Smile And Burn play catchy pop-punk/punk, comperable to bands such as Rise Against, just a little more on the pop-part, a bit like Trophy Eyes. They put out one song so far, namely "Good Enough", which is one of my favourite singles and videos of last year, so I'm really excited for this album. The first song sounds like nothing from their previous work, which excites me even more. Go and pre-order it here.

The last one on this short list is Casper's new creation, Lang Lebe Der Tod. This album keeps me excited not with the style of the first single (which I don't really like) but with how different it is to the rapper's previous work. Casper has always been an artist who invented himself new every album. He has not just been a big influence for the german rap scene, but was one of my first big loves in music and has influenced me and my life in many ways. The album was first due to come out on the 23rd of September last year, but was eventually rescheduled to the 23rd of June this year because it felt not complete in a way Casper wanted it to. I hope this extra year gives the album the quality it deserves and I'm really excited to hear his new stuff. The album is supported by the label Columbia/Sony Music and it's available for pre-order it here.

These are the albums I look forward to so far. I hope I can bring myself to write more this year.

To end this post I want to talk about this little cover of Julien Baker's "Sprained Ankle":

The artist behind this goes by the name of "Paper Flowers" and I strongly believe him to be Glenn Harvey, the beautiful drummer of the beautiful Moose Blood. This was my first new song of 2017, so thanks, Glenn.

Anyway, I hope you, admired reader, have a beautiful 2017.

Take Care! See you soon.

Concerts.

My Week - Rap, Indie, Metalcore.

Hi there. How are you? Good! Your hair looks beautiful today.

So, my last week was full of one of my favorite things on earth: concerts. I saw Gerard with support from Lot on 10/31, The Wombats with support from Kid Astray on 11/4 and Bring Me The Horizon with support from PVRIS and Beartooth on 11/6. 3 concerts in 6 days. I liked that. I want to write about that. So I made myself a nice cup of black Yorkshire tea (yes, again.) and just started.

First: Gerard. He's a german rapper coming from Austria and that's where I went to his concert, Conrad Sohm in Dornbirn, Austria. I was at my girlfriend's house for two weeks and since my birthday is on the 31/10, my mum bought us two tickets for this show. Dornbirn is an half an hour drive away from where my girlfriend lives and so we started our drive around dawn, which made it incredibly beautiful. From the road we could see the Alps and the clouds around it and the sun setting behind it and god, it just was beautiful. The club itself was very hard to find, it was hidden in the forest. Hidden, I swear. We asked a guy at a petrol station and after we drove past it six times and looked on a map for hickers, the lights of the club went on as we drove to it the seventh time. I fucking swear that they weren't on before.
The doors were about to open ten minutes after we arrived, so we sat down on the stairs in front of the entry and smoked before we got in.  The club was very small and untill Gerard got on stage there were only 40 people in the room. So my girlfriend and me stood in the very front of the stage when the support act Lot started to play. I only heard a song from him before, he makes some sort of german indie-music. The show was very good but after a few songs, a few drunk girls came to the front row and started to wave their arms around and scream like they if they'd be, well, drunk. They stayed there the whole evening which was pretty annoying. A few minutes after Lot's show and after me heroicly climbing on stage to get a cute handwritten setlist for me and my girlfriend, Gerard came onto the stage.

If you did not hear anything from him, you should. His songs and mainly his beats together with his voice are so magical, not like you'd expect german rap music. The lights fitted his music perfectly the show was pure magic. The fact that not many people were there made it hard to go crazy and jump around so I just hold my girlfriend in my arms and enjoyed the muic and the jumping guy on the stage, which was just as good.
After the show, we waited for Lot to sign or setlist (Who did not came out. Sigh.) and Gerard to give us some hugs. My girlfriend bought herself something at the merch and then we met him and god, he is one of the nicest people on earth. He's so sweet and it's so nice to talk to him, he does not seem like a celebrity or anything, more like a friend who I just watched playing his music. He gifted a polaroid to me, signed our tickets and we tried to make pictures. Yes, tried. The girl, that TRIED to make pictures of us apparently never did this before, so we came back after we said goodbye to try again and finally, we got our overexposed picture hugging him and said goodbye again. I hope to meet him again, he is such a nice and sweet human. If you're reading this, Gerald, stay, who you are!
The drive home was very calming, I'll go deeper into that later.

On the wednesday after Gerard, my girlfriend, a good friend, his girlfriend and me drove about an hour and an half to Den Atelier in Luxembourg, Luxemburg to see one of my favorite bands, The Wombats. I hold a deep love for long drives, especially with my girlfriend but I hate driving through big cities. So after I drove over a red light and three people honked at me we finally found a cheap car park, ate something, bought cigarettes (Because they are cheaper in Luxemburg than in Germany) and went to the small club. I've been there twice before and so it was very nice to come back. After waiting for an hour, we got in and waited for the bands to play. The support act, Kid Astray, which I never heard of before, is a norvegian indie band. They were more than amazing and the crowd was overwhelmed, which lead to charming reactions of the band. After a few minutes of soundchecking the room went dark and one of my absolute favorite bands came onto the stage: The Wombats.

I saw them earlier this year, so I held high expectations. And yes, the band lived up to them. I love the magic of indie music live and it was so awesome to finally jump around again. The club was not sold out and the crowd itself did not seem to share my desire to jump around, which lead to only to mosh pits, one only with my good friend and me for a few moments. That did not broke my spirit and I jump around and went crazy on my own and this feeling was so good. I needed this. The band played all of my favorite songs, and some songs, I did not expect them to play, which made the concert even better. Halfway through, they played the song 'Isabel', the slowest song they got in their repertoire, as a stripped down version with only one guitar and the singer's voice, seen below.

My girlfriend and me were overwhelmed with emotions and I held her in my arms through this song. Thanks, Murph.
The last thing worth mentioning: At their second last song, 'Let's Dance To Joy Division', a very awesome and let's-go-crazy type of song and its bridge, where the band and the crowd sang the words "Let the love tear us apart, I found a cure for a broken heart." I sang passionatly and waved my arms around, which caused the bassist, (the cute) Tord, to point at me and smile. That made my heart jump high, thanks, Tord.
Oh, and, for the sake of the complete band: Thanks, Dan, for being there and being you.

And finally, last friday, my girlfriend and me drove to Würzburg in Germany to see another one of our favorite bands: Bring Me The Horizon with support from PVRIS, another one of our favorite bands and Beartooth. They played in the Posthalle, one of the biggest venues I went to. BMTH is a British metalcore band, if you don't know them by now, you should definetily check them out. Würzburg is about two and a half hours away from where I live and due to me having school and the length of the drive, we arrived very late and missed Beartooth and sadly, all but two songs of PVRIS. That did not bring us down and so we waited for the highlight of this week: Bring Me The Horizon. The lights went out, the screen on the stage showed the big That's The Spirit-umbrella and the crowd started screaming.

As soon as they started playing, the whole crowd went absolutely crazy. Moshpits were all over the place and the singer organized some walls of death and a circle pit. I missed this. I missed screaming out my lungs. I missed jumping synchronised with hundreds of people. I missed pushing each other the hardest but caring about one another. If someone falls down in the pit or has to tie his show, everyone is so nice and caring and you can hardly feel more safe than in a moshpit. I missed the unknown source of the sweat you're currently tasting, you never know if it's yours or someone else's. All the songs they played were a highlight themself. My personal favorite moments were screaming "Go to hell, for heaven's sake!" with hundred of others, jumping around to 'Throne', having my girlfriend on my shoulders at 'Blessed With A Curse' and most of all, the last song: Drown. One of my favorites, if not my favorite. The whole song, espacially the bridge is so magical itself but singing it with so many other people was just pure perfection. With the last chorus, black confetti (from which I brought something home) rained down on us. It gave me the chills of my live and I nearly fucking cried. I was so happy in this moment and after it. Thanks a lot, you handsome Britons. This was more than beautiful.
At the way out, I could not just walk past the merch stand without taking some of this more than beautiful things home.

This shirt (The same motive with the words 'Don't let me drown.' is on the back.) and this hoodie (The umbrella is on the back.) may now be my new favorites. My girlfriend bought herself the umbrella-flag and a PVRIS shirt. We decided to wait near the tourbus for some bandmembers, after waiting for about one hour we decided to leave, sadly we only met Alex from PVRIS, who is also one of the nicest people on the earth. We were scared to go up to him, but he was so nice and sweet and signed our tickets and made a hugging-picture with us. I'd love to meet him again. The drive back home was beautiful, let me explain it further:

I love driving. Espacially at night and espacially with my girlfriend. So I don't mind if concerts are more or less far away. The lights and the music we listen to just work together perfectly. Some other perfectly fitting things are coffee, stopping at parking lots or my fingers intertwined with my girlfriend's.

This picture is from or trip to the netherlands but it still fits perfectly.

If you came this far, hi! Thank you, you are awesome. I love concerts, the pictures I get out of them and the feeling during or after them. It was an important and nice topic to write about. We'll see/read/text/hear each other soon. Goodbye, lovely human.

Meine Woche - Rap, Indie, Metalcore.

Hallo. Was geht so? Wunderbar!

Ich will darüber schreiben.

Monday 26 October 2015

I'm not cut out for the modern life.

Top of the morning.

In other words: Hi. I'm Danny. Welcome to my blog.

I don't have a concrete reason for making this. I just want to write and I think that this could turn out as something that I like and I'm proud of. So I just want to give it a go, made myself a nice cup of black yorkshire tea, put on inspirational music and here I am.
This could also be a good way of practicing the english language, since I'm not very good at it. So all posts are going to be in english + in german. Enjoy, you beautiful, probably non-existant human.

I'm Danny, currently 18 years old but I'll turn 19 in 5 days. I'm in my last year of school and I plan on going to university next summer. I'll probably study maths and no, I don't seem like I would. I live in Germany but would love to study in England. I'm fascinated by music, the ones who make it, making it, tea, cats, YouTube and pictures (yes, even the badly-shot-and-badly-edited kind seen above. It'll get better. I promise). This is basically all this blog is going to be about. I'm also going to put a shit ton of links at the bottom (This blog is going to be full of swear words, just as a warning. This is going to be less funny in german). So when I'm talking about a song or a video, be sure to find it linked at the end of every post. For example, my blog is named after two songs:
"I'm not cut out for the modern life." - The Wombats, 1996
- Kraftklub, Mein Leben
If you look at the bottom, you can now see both these songs linked. Isn't that lovely?
I saw both these bands live, which brings us to yet another aspect of this blog: concerts.
Just to make it look a little nicer, have a picture of a little local festival I went to this summer:

The last idea I want to mention: I'm going to put the music I listented to as I wrote this at the bottom of this post. I stole this idea from my lovely girlfriend, I hope she doesn't mind. If you're reading this, I LOVE YOU, PLEASE DON'T BREAK UP WITH ME.

That's it for now! I don't know how frequent this is going to be, I'll just write when I want to. Take care of each other, you lovely people (again, I don't expect someone to read this, which makes it funny to always speek directly to you.) and I'll see/hear/text you soon. Goodbye for now.

T/\KE C/\RE.

Top of the morning.

In anderen Worten: Hi.

_____

"I'm not cut out for the modern life." - The Wombats, 1996

T/\KE C/\RE.
